Soile Kauranen, Deputy Head of Mission at Embassy of Finland
Ms Soile Kauranen is the Deputy Head of the Mission in the Embassy of Finland, Beijing. She started her duty on 1st August 2021. Prior to her posting to Beijing she was the advisor to the Leadership of the Department of Asia and the Americas in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Helsinki. Her portfolio also consisted of East Asian regional issues; Korean Peninsula and Japan specifically.
Ms Kauranen is a career diplomat in the Finnish Foreign service, which she joined in 2004. During her diplomatic career she has served in multiple Finnish Embassies (Washington DC, Riga, Geneva and the Mission to Nato). Issue areas that she has mainly worked with are International Organisations, European Union policies and International Trade Policy. For 2018-2020 she was a team leader and director in the Finnish MFA Personnel Unit in charge of personnel planning and recruitments.
Ms Kauranen has a Masters Degree in Political Science from University of Helsinki (2003). In her studies she focused to the International Relations, International Law, Political History and Education. She did her Erasmus Exchange in the University of KU Leuven (Belgium) concentrating in International Law and European Union Studies. In 2003 she published a joint study in the Finnish Institute to International Affairs (FIIA) with professor Henri Vogt with title โDialogue or Monologue?; the Relationship between the EU and ACP Countiresโ.
Ms Kauranen is married and has two teenage children. She is an avid reader and loves long walks in nature.
