Business IP Protection in Med Tech Industry

Accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic, the digitalization of China's healthcare sector is offering an increasing number of opportunities for the SMEs engaged in Med Tech. As this sector is considered a priority sector for the Chinese Government, EU SMEs with innovative solutions can expect to find a booming market. As Med Tech sector is driven by new technologies and innovation, IPR protection is the crucial part of market success.

As SMEs invest substantial resources in the development of new technologies, technical solutions and new designs, losing their inventions to competitors is too costly, thus it is important to properly plan a comprehensive IP strategy including all aspects of IP related to Med Tech.

Finnish Business Council and China IPR SME Helpdesk jointly organize a webinar series consisting of 2 sessions on IP Protection in Med Tech Industry in China. The Dates are Nov 11 and Nov 25 at 3pm-4pm CST. Webinar link will be send to attendees after registration.

The session two webinar titled Business IP Protection in Med Tech Industry. China IPR SME Helpdesk IP Business Advisor Mr. Matias Zubimendi will discuss the economic exploitation of IP in Med Tech industry, focusing on the main IP-contracts such as licensing agreements. This webinar section will also cover the IP protection of APPs and databases. Mr. Zubimendi will also cover design protection and exploitation as well as stress the importance branding and trade mark protection.

The China IPR SME Helpdesk supports European Union (EU) Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) to both protect and enforce their Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in or relating to Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan through the provision of free information and services. These take the form of jargon-free, first-line, confidential advice on intellectual property and related issues, plus training, materials and online resources.

The China IPR SME Helpdesk project is funded by the European Union and builds on the achievements of a pilot project carried out in 2008-10, the subsequent Phase II in 2010-2013 and Phase III in 2014. Phase IV ran from January 2015 to June 2018. As of September 2018 Phase V commenced expanding China IPR SME Helpdesk's services also to the SMEs from COSME countries.
