Reporting on non-financial items, known as ESG reporting (Environment, Social and Governance) is becoming increasingly important both in the Nordics and in China. Even though it is still only mandatory for large companies in Europe to make comprehensive ESG reports, regulations such as the EU Supply Chain Act increases the need also for smaller companies to understand the concept of ESG reporting. If approached right, ESG reporting can be a powerful tool for companies to manage risks and get market benefits.

Heidi Berg Head of Partnership Development at Nordic Innovation and Sustainability Shanghai (NISS) is a Norwegian with background from ESG and sustainability projects from companies such as Norfund and Telenor before moving to China. She is a GRI Certified Sustainability Professional and holds a Master of International Management from NHH. Heidi is the Shanghai Vice Chair of the Norwegian Business Association.
