Dear members and friends of FinnCham,
In Beijing the temperature is rising, and we are enjoying sunny days more and more – the summer is around the corner. In many ways the weather also describes the general mood after the pandemic. The theme for the spring has been travelling for many of us as it has become possible and worry-free both domestically and internationally. When travelling inside the country, either by train or plane, one can easily sense the return to “normal”. |

Trains and planes are full of people of many backgrounds and ages while the general atmosphere appears rather relaxed. The struggles and restrictions of last three years seem to be a distant memory.
Beginning of May signifies not only summer but also a new term for Finncham Beijing. The AGM was held on 21st of April in the awesome facilities of the Finnish Embassy in Beijing where some 20 member company representatives joined the meeting and review of our activities previous term. Due to the situation, last term was a notorious record year when it comes to last minute event cancellations. Despite the challenges we were able to have close to 60 online and offline events, which considering the situation in particular during the 2nd half of the year is pretty remarkable at the least. A huge thanks for this belongs to our superb Executive Director Ulla Nurmenniemi!
The AGM also elected the Board of Directors to continue with the same representation as last term. We held our first organizing meeting right after the AGM to decide on the roles in the Board. I am extremely grateful and honored for the trust received from both the AGM and my fellow Board Members to continue as the Chairman. At the same time, I want to thank the Board for the previous term and am looking forward to continue the work together: Vicechairs Hu Ronghui (UPM) and Pekka Patja (Detection Technology) as well as Board Members Larry Du (Ivana Helsinki), Xiaofeng Liang (Metso:Outotec), Susanna Patja (Nokia), Mika Woll (M5 Architects) and Zhilin Yang (Blastman Robotics). After the restrictions last year this Board is eager to continue and complete the plans made together a year ago, including working towards uniting FinnChams in China. |

This new term has already gotten a running start. Last week saw the return of bigger Team Finland delegations when the Ambassador led delegation to Shandong includes representatives from over 40 Finnish companies. Also, FinnCham Beijing visited Rizhao with eight member companies to learn about the local opportunities. This Friday we are organizing our monthly Afterworks in a hutong setting and later on a breakfast seminar with SEB. Perhaps the most exciting one is the HR training on NASA’s leadership methods on 1st of June. More information on these below. And the pace continues with more delegation visits and other events throughout the year, as always stay tuned!
Finally, Finncham Beijing ended last term with close 60 company members. On the behalf of Finncham Beijing I take this opportunity to thank all our members for the trust and being part of our great community. Especially I want to thank Premium Members Kemppi and Nokia for their great support to us! And what better way to start the new term than introducing our latest new member Etteplan. Be sure to read more on who they are and what they do later in this newsletter.
Yours sincerely Juha Tuominen Chairman
