Dear Members and friends of FBCB,

Covid, Covid, Covid. Summer is knocking at the door and many people are facing the same question: to travel or not to travel. People miss their families, have business needs to attend to, or just hope to spend a vacation somewhere else. There has been some talk about a global travel pass, but so far nothing concrete has been established. Many countries have started putting together their own solutions. The European Commission expects to soon finish working on a COVID-19 certificate that could allow European citizens to travel more easily within the 27-nation bloc, but it won't be of any use to us here in China. So should we just spend yet another coronavirus summer in China? Fortunately China is a huge country and there are plenty of domestic travel opportunities.
Life and business are back to normal, but things can change quickly in China. Regional lockdowns have been imposed every time a new virus outbreak is discovered. There's pressure to keep the borders closed prior to the upcoming Beijing winter Olympics, which is in just 9 months from now. China’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that China will not reach herd immunity until mid-2022. There's indication that vaccination will be a prerequisite for participating in the Olympics in an effort to protect the athletes, the staff, and the audience. It remains to be seen.

There are also a number of other important events occurring in China before the Olympics. China is the world’s second largest economy with the largest population and the biggest political party in the world. The Communist Party of China will have its 100th anniversary in July 2021. There will be plenty of events, including symposiums, performances, and award ceremonies - with considerable emphasis on the nation’s recent triumph over the COVID-19 crisis. It's to be expected that there will be very little tolerance for any new coronavirus cases, especially imported ones.

Finnish Business Council and Finnish companies in general are doing well. Very well, actually. The biannual meeting of Team Finland in China was held May 10-11 in Shanghai. The atmosphere at the gathering was happy and companies had many positive news to share. The companies that have suffered the most are those that have no physical presence in China, as virtual meetings can't replace face-to-face meetings entirely. Despite the circumstances, there have been many new entrants to the market. Ivana Helsinki has just had a strong launch in China with several agreements. JunctionX, an innovation startup hub originating from Finland, is also getting more visibility and held a 48-hour hackathon in Tianjin last weekend.

This month guest writer comes from UROS, one of our newest member companies. Read what kind of solution UROS has made with IoT to enable enterprises to automate their business processes.

Sincerely Yours,

Ulla Nurmenniemi
Executive Director, FBCB

Guest Writer UROS - New Era of Infrastructure Brings "Connectivity" to IoT Industry
The Internet of Things (IoT) under the China's New Infrastructure Plan helps small and medium-sized customers to better realize the connection of IoT, starting from the actual needs of enterprises, in the manner of providing software and hardware solution.

With the progress of the times and technology, the road of IoT development is getting longer and longer. The application of big data and the depth of AI makes IoT extending in all directions and accelerates social alternation and innovation. Devices and sensors based on IoT are slowly changing the way enterprises conduct business, affecting many aspects of small and medium-sized enterprises.

Mr. Herbert Chan, General Manager of UROS Greater China and Asia Pacific, combined with the development trend of IoT in recent years, introduced in detail the impact of IoT on enterprises and the achievements of UROS in vertical industries.

Herbert Chan mentions, present devices of IoT often joining to the network connection, can help enterprises tracking and real-time managing their global connection more easily, and also change the previous reliance on hand-held devices that need a lot of human scanning operation, so as to save manual intervention time, time-saving and labor-saving, convenient and quick. In addition, connectivity of IoT can group devices by product, location, and name according to the demands. Of course, it all depends on the demands of the enterprise.

IoT can enable enterprises to automate their business processes. At the same time, it will be revolutionary for those enterprises that are rapidly expanding in the international market. Through IoT device connectivity solution of UROS Connect, no matter where your equipment is located, you can track data consumption in real time. If your equipment shows abnormal behavior, the UROS Connect platform will alert you in time so that you can choose the most appropriate operation. In terms of production machinery monitoring, UROS Connect can monitor the running state of machinery, uptime or downtime, read warnings and fault codes, and provide new firmware updates aperiodically, which plays an important role in assuring product quality and planning preventive maintenance. In addition, for intelligent utility management, Herbert Chan says UROS Connect can monitor the utilization of renewable energy production equipment through the gateways connected, make environmental measurements and occasionally remote visual inspections, which makes the work hours of employees within the enterprise more flexible, and makes full use of time for more analysis and development, so as to greatly improve work efficiency and scale up deployment easily and efficiently.

By Connecting solution through the devices of UROS Connect IoT, with the latest global eSIM integration technology, we assist in connecting your ground equipment to the network, as well as enhancing enterprise accessibility and trust. The software development kit, SDK is designed from Seamless and easy access to the net and integration operations in mind. For developers, it can be better to design the devices and reduce product development time.

As the concept of smart cities becomes increasingly popular, IoT technology is used to monitor traffic on the road network, for public transport, sidewalks around pedestrian areas and for civic facilities such as recycling centers and garbage collection. On the market side, through intelligent coal consumption analysis technology, with monitoring software and sensors, IoT can reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions, it is easy to protect the environment and save money by Internet of Things technology.

Looking to the future, Herbert Chan is full of confidence with the development of IoT. He thinks that IoT means that you can monitor the assets remotely more effectively, to reassure the enterprises. And for enterprises to accelerate development, UROS Connect will be the prior choice, which can effectively apply interconnection equipment to various enterprises and realize the deep integration of intelligence and innovation in the development of enterprises.

UROS Connect inserts the eSIM to the devices, eliminating the need for a physical SIM card, thus it makes it possible for the devices to connect to the network. Instead of negotiating the network price with the mobile operators in each country, now it just need to use UROS Connect solution directly. This solution is suitable for international vehicle manufacturers and other IoT electronic equipment manufacturers.

“The fundamental design of UROS Connect is based on customer demand”, Herbert Chan says. UROS Connect provides powerful, customized solution, from smart devices to user interfaces, to broaden the platform of smart connectivity, to help customers to establish device connectivity more quickly and easily. Meanwhile, UROS Connect focuses on the construction of smart city and smart life, human wearables, artificial intelligence (AI), robot technology, UAV, industrial IoT, financial technology and automobile and other fields, to expand the scope of services, and comprehensively escorts small and medium-sized in development and operation.
